Sometimes you need to make a site private. Maybe you have a private blog that you only want family to access. Or maybe you want to have a client site that accessible only to that client. Here’s how to password protect a WordPress site.
1. Download and install the Password Protected plugin.
2. Navigate to Settings > Password Protected.
3. Check off the box enabling password protection and check off the boxes to allow administrators and logged in users.
4. In the new password fields, create a password. Remember, this will be the password that you share with people.
5. Click save changes.
Now whenever someone goes to your site, they’ll be prompted to enter a password. For users that are logged in to their accounts there won’t be any difference. They’ll still be able to see the site as normal.
