If you blog, you’re probably hoping to get your posts in front of as many eyes as possible, am I right? Unfortunately you can’t just write a blog post and expect it to be read by thousands. There’s effort involved. The good news it that thanks to social media, it’s easier than ever to share content with others. However, getting people to share your content is another story. If you want to increase your blog post shares on Twitter, then you have to make it easy for your readers to do so.
Let’s take a look at some ways you can make it easy for your readers to share your posts, thus increasing the amount of times your posts are shared on Twitter.
Include Social Sharing Buttons
By far one of the most popular ways to integrate Twitter into your site is to include social sharing buttons. These buttons can appear above or below a post, or even as a floating bar on the side of your site and they provide your readers with the ability to share your post on a variety of social media platforms. Since you should be making things as easy as possible for your readers, this is a great way to make it easy for them to quickly share your posts.
Not sure how to implement social sharing buttons? Here are a few plugins that will insert buttons into your site for you:
Jetpack – If you already have Jetpack installed on your site, you can take advantage of their social sharing buttons. On your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings > Sharing and you can configure what buttons are displayed and where.
Monarch – Monarch gives you a ton of options for displaying your buttons, both in terms of location and customization. You will need an Elegant Themes license, but it might be worth it given the fact that you’ll get access to a ton of themes and other plugins.
Naked Social Share – Perhaps my favorite of the bunch is Ashley’s Naked Social Share. This plugin gives you the ability to fully customize your social sharing plugins. If you know your way around CSS and are looking for an option that fits seamlessly with your site design, this is a great option.
Embed Click to Tweet Links
While social media buttons are great, it’s incredibly easy too overlook them. One of my favorite ways to encourage readers to share content is to embed Click to Tweet (CTT) links within my posts. CTT links are prefilled tweets with a link to your post as well as your username. The beauty of these links is that you can dictate exactly what text is shared with your post. This is particularly great if you want to share a quote or a fact from within your post. And since they’re displayed within your blog post, they’re hard to miss.

Highlight Popular Content
A fun way to get others to share your blog posts on Twitter is to install the Highlighter app for SumoMe. When a reader highlights text on your site, a pop up appears which allows them to share it via Twitter or Facebook. The text remains highlighted on your site with a little star and number after it. It’s a great way to show your readers what portions of your post are popular, thus providing social proof and encouraging them to share as well.
Give Away Content for a Tweet
Do you give away freebies on your site? If so, you could be getting paid with Tweets. Plugins such as Pay with a Tweet and OnePress Social Locker allow you to lock content behind a pay wall. All your readers have to do is share the post via Twitter and they gain access to your locked content. Now while you could hide entire posts in exchange for a Tweet, I suggest you limit it’s usage to a freebie or maybe a bonus tip. If people love your post, they’ll be more willing to share it than if they have no clue what to expect.
